The Skirvin Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

In 1983 my friend David surprised me with Pat Benatar tickets.  He was taking a break from the University of Oklahoma but told me he would come in for the weekend for the concert.  He told me to pick him up at the Skirvin Hotel.  WOW!  This small town Kansas girl had never seen such a spectacular hotel.  I was in awe and told myself that maybe someday I might be able to stay in a fancy hotel.

I WILL stay in that hotel the night before the Oklahoma City Marathon! I thought it might be a good idea to book a room early.  I also thought it would be great to simply walk to the starting line and not have to mess with traffic on race day.  Many of the "close" hotels are already sold out.  I did not dare click on the Skirvin because I figured it too would be sold out and/or our of my price range.  It wasn't! The discount rate that was given to Marathon participants makes it doable.  About $75.00 more a night than we generally spend on hotels but I started to think about that starry eyed 21 year old girl I used to be and thought to myself, I CAN DO THIS! I also think that having been through both the Johnson and Ruge Estates in the last 5 years the old saying is true, "YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU!"

I hope The Skirvin is everything I remember it to be.
