118 days until the OKC Marathon

Week one report

My eating is out of control!  Each shopping trip does get healthier.  We have been removing "white carbs" out of our diet.  Healthy eating is hard when I am off of work.  My return to work on the 2nd (three school days before my husband reports back) might actually be a blessing.  I seem to stick to an eating plan better on days that I am working. I will REALLY hit the nutrition hard on 1/1/14.

I have decided to use my hip/stomach inches as my guide.  Fat in your mid section is the dangerous type of fat and it is what I need to loose.  I hide my weight well with loose tops.  Society would not see me as overweight.  My BMI is on the cusp of being overweight.  I just know that since my weight went over 135 pounds it has caused me to struggle as a runner. 

I am CERTAIN that if I was not physically fit I would be extremely overweight.  Physical fitness alone kept me slim and trim through my late 30's.  I look at my life over the last 11 years, and a lot of stressful things have happened (along with aging/menopause and a slowing metabolism).  It has been one year since my Dad die. Between the years of 2008-2012 Brad and I have lost both our sets of parents and settled estates.  Stress adds weight.

Running wise this week I ran 3 times instead of 4 and I could feel it.  By the time my LSD (long slow distance) run occurred yesterday I was tired!  I waited for the heat of the day and was blessed that I could run 8 miles outside at the end of December in South Central Kansas.

Workouts for the week:

Monday: Extreme Ride 5:30 pm DTYMCA

Tuesday: Resolution Run 5K 5:00 pm El Dorado KS, Run in the New Year 5K 11:45 pm GoRun East
 
Wednesday: Hangover 5K 10:00 am GoRun East

Thursday: 3 mile treadmill run

Friday: Fierce 5:30 pm DTYMCA

Saturday: LSD 9 miles (most likely 54 laps) DTYMCA

Sunday: REST

Training updated

I have known for sometime that I need to add weight training into the mix.  Because of that I have "tweaked" my training.  With sadness I will be saying good-bye to ZUMBA for the next 18 weeks.  I am adding Muscle Pump into the mix.  I will fall on a running night so I will do as much of the run that I can before class and finish up what is left after the class.  Here is my revised training schedule. Weather permitting my runs will be outside.  Those outside runs will be timed to occur at the warmest time of the day (mid afternoon).  If I do have to run inside on a Saturday though I will do so early as I would have the company of other runners on the DTYMCA track.  Sometimes you just need to see other runners. This revised schedule shows the races (not many) that I will be doing between now and the OKC Marathon.

125 days until the OKC Marathon

125 days until the OKC Marathon
Training begins tomorrow 12/23/13
Weight = 141 pounds

Workouts for the week: Monday 3 mile run and ZUMBA fitness. Tuesday 3 mile run.  Wednesday REST as it is Christmas Day!  Thursday 5 mile run.  Friday Fierce.  Saturday 8 mile run.  Sunday REST!

My training begins tomorrow.  I know I can go the distance but know to do so will require me taking a SERIOUS look at my nutrition.  I will be using myfitnesspal to log my foods especially my carbohydrate intake.  Runners need carbs but I go overboard.  You can friend me if you like at the site my username is zumbagirl1962.  Society would not view me as needing to loose weight but it does slow me down.  Realistically for a 51 year old woman I think 10 pounds are doable but at 5'3" would like to be 125ish.  Probably not obtainable due to the havoc that a woman's body goes through during menopause.

Looks like all my runs will be inside this week due to weather.  Love the 6 laps = 1 mile indoor track at the Down Town YMCA.  Need a better way to keep track of my laps.  I can't see the lap counter on my Garmin.  At one time I used a knotted rosary to count laps and might need to go back to that.

Got my Training Schedule Ready

Mandy had sent me this link http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51138/Marathon-Novice-2-Training-Program I think it looks like a doable program.  I was thinking about the other types of fitness that I absolutely love and I think I have figured out a way to incorporate ZUMBA, SPIN and FIERCE into the mix.
